What
Is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic
Medicine is a special area of medical practice that recognizes the
body's innate ability to repair and heal itself. Naturopathy uses
natural medicines and therapies to encourage, strengthen, and
augment this ability. Naturopaths understand that, at times,
surgery or other non-natural intervention may be necessary for
their patients. They are trained to recognize when referral to
another health care provider is appropriate. Naturopathic medicine
can complement and increase the effectiveness of conventional
medicine. Therefore naturopaths serve as primary physicians in some
cases, and as complementary practitioners working in cooperation
with the patient's primary M.D. in others.
